Choosing a String Instrument
You have 4 choices:
ViolinThe violin probably doesn't need much introduction. The violin is an extremely versatile instrument, meaning that you can play the violin in almost any musical group. The violin is extremely popular, so there is often a lot of competition in the orchestra to have the best seats.
CelloThe cello is considered by many to be the instrument that most closely resembles the beauty of the human voice, and for this reason among others the cello seems to be many people's favorite instrument. Students playing the cello can expect to play a lot of beautiful, challenging, and fun music. The cello section tends to be somewhere competitive, although not as bad as the violin section.

ViolaThe viola is similar to the violin, except it is a little bit bigger and plays lower. It is a beautiful instrument that has a rich woody sound that appeals to many people. Viola players are more rare than violin players, so as a viola player your chances of getting college scholarships and other opportunities to play can be higher.
St. BassThe String Bass is the lowest member of the string orchestra. It is a very large instrument requires the student to be physically big enough to play it. It is a very fun instrument that can be played in orchestra, Jazz, Bluegrass, rock, and other musical settings. We ALWAYS need string bass players and Mr. Voght is always trying to encourage students to consider playing the bass as it is a fun instrument with lots of opportunities and we need as many string bass players as we can get!
